Gardeners and snowdrop collectors, take note: there’s a new variety on the block for the 2024 season. It’s called Galanthus ‘Princess Mattie’, and it’s the latest creation from Joe Sharman of Monksilver Nursery, well-known for his previous work with snowdrops, including the ‘Golden Fleece’.

While I don’t have a photo to share with you just yet, I can assure you that ‘Princess Mattie’ is a noteworthy addition to any snowdrop collection. This variety stands out with its double flowers – an unusual feature that sets it apart from the standard single-petaled snowdrops we’re accustomed to seeing each spring.
The development of ‘Princess Mattie’ adds to Joe Sharman’s reputation as a skilled cultivator of these beloved winter flowers. His expertise in breeding unique varieties has already won him accolades in gardening circles, and this new snowdrop is no exception.
Due to its distinctiveness and the prestige associated with Sharman’s creations, ‘Princess Mattie’ is expected to be in high demand, with prices possibly reaching around £1000 per bulb. It’s a steep price, but for collectors and snowdrop enthusiasts, the cost reflects the plant’s rarity and the craftsmanship that went into its development.
Keep an eye out for future updates – could this be a Record-Breaking Snowdrop, those interested in this extraordinary double snowdrop should start making plans (or start saving!!!) to add it to their gardens or collections.
