Galanthus elwesii ‘Daphne’s Scissors’ is a notable snowdrop variety with unique inner segment markings that resemble scissors. This cultivar belongs to the greater snowdrop (G. elwesii) family and is particularly valued by snowdrop collectors.

During my visit to RHS Bridgewater in January 2025, I photographed this variety. Although the snowdrops were not yet in full bloom, the scissor markings were visible. The RHS website provides detailed photographs showing the flowers at their peak.
Distinctive Features
The key feature of this snowdrop is its large white flowers with green markings on the inner segments forming a clear scissors pattern. The outer segments have subtle green lines at their tips. Like other G. elwesii varieties, Daphne’s Scissors flowers in winter, making it valuable for winter garden interest.
Growing Requirements
This snowdrop grows best in:
- Partially shaded locations. Ideal sunny in the winter with more shade in the summer.
- Well-draining soil
- Cool, moist conditions
Plant in autumn to allow establishment before the flowering season. Or plant in the green if available. The variety has received recognition from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and is easily identifiable among other G. elwesii cultivars by its distinctive markings.
